The roadster honoured as a “Dream from the Isar”
The BMW 507 was considered one of the world’s most beautiful sports cars of the 1950s, with many still regarding it as the most beautiful auto mobile of all time. When the car was unveiled at the IAA auto show in Frankfurt in September 1955, the press celebrated it as the “Dream from the Isar.” Its shape has a distinctly iconic character and is still viewed as timeless today. At its initial introduction at the 1955 IAA auto show in Frankfurt, the BMW 507 rolled up with a roaring 150 hp V8 engine that had a displacement of 3,168 cm³ in a bid to stand up to the legendary Mercedes-Benz 300 SL with its gullwing doors. In fact, the BMW 507 is significantly more compact and also much rarer than the 300 SL when it comes to the quantities produced and the units that are still around today. Only 252 units were delivered between 1956 and 1959 – not least because of the then steep price tag of around 26,000 marks. To date, the collector’s value has climbed to over 700,000 euros. At WIKING, the BMW 507 has become one of the classics that sprang from new moulds and thus one of the milestones in German automotive history.
