Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, DHL
DHL Worldwide Express was founded in 1969 by Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn. The company name is made up of the first letters of the founders’ surnames.
The three founders personally flew freight documents from San Francisco to Honolulu. Customs clearance of the corresponding ship loads could thus begin before the ships actually arrived.
Sending accompanying documents before the actual transport of goods was the basis for the success of this express service. In 2002, DHL was taken over by Deutsche Post AG. The short Sprinters are usually used in fast express services.
