Semi-detached house EW 65
The kit represents the widespread, standardized single-family house EW 65 as a semi-detached house, based on designs by the prominent GDR architect Wilfried Stallknecht. Once designed by the VEB Kombinat Bau Meiningen, many of the buildings are still preserved in their original form today. The model perfectly reproduces the typical details: plastered facade in the typical GDR color. Doors, windows and window frames made of real wood. Staircase with prototypical roofing. Roof with chimneys, roof hatches and grates for the chimney sweep as well as delicate rain gutters and downpipes made of plastic. The stable, plug-in substructure, which is covered with the pre-cut and colored parts, makes assembly particularly easy.
At the end of the 1950s, the prominent GDR architect Wilfried Stallknecht designed a series of private homes with standardized single-family houses (EW 58). The primary goal was to save material, time and money when building houses. The single-storey, no-frills buildings had a gable roof with an attic underneath. The functional room layout was planned on an almost square floor plan. Mostly built using brick or hollow block construction, the facade was then given the gray scratch plaster typical of the GDR. Further developments included variants such as the EW 65 B with a full basement and more open room layout or the EW 65 B-D as an enlarged semi-detached house with a pitched roof. This type of building experienced a boom thanks to state funding in the 1970s and is still widespread today. Many houses have already been completely renovated, but still need to be renovated in their original state.
